1. What is Aspirin Direct, and what is it used for
One chewable tablet contains 500 mg of acetylsalicylic acid.
Acetylsalicylic acid relieves pain, lowers fever, and has an anti-inflammatory effect.
Aspirin Direkt is used for the symptomatic relief of headaches, toothaches, sore throats, back pain, menstrual pain, muscle and joint pain, and mild arthritis pain, and for the symptomatic relief of pain and lowering of fever. Cold or flu.
2. What you need to know before you take Aspirin directly
– Do not use Aspirin directly if:
– you have an active ulcer in your stomach or duodenum
– you are prone to bleeding
– you are hypersensitive to acetylsalicylic acid and other salicylates or other components of the medicine
– after taking salicylates or substances with a similar action (non-steroidal anti-rheumatic drugs), have ever had asthma attacks
– you are taking methotrexate (15 mg/week or more)
– you are in the last trimester of pregnancy.
It is essential to talk to your doctor about using Aspirin Direct if:
– you are hypersensitive to other anti-inflammatory drugs, anti-rheumatic drugs, or other allergenic substances
– you have asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hay fever, or swollen nasal mucosa (nasal polyps)
– you have liver or kidney problems
– have you ever had gastrointestinal ulcers (chronic or recurrent gastrointestinal ulcers or bleeding)
– you are being treated at the same time with:
Other NSAIDs, systemic glucocorticoids, anticoagulants, thrombolytics/platelet aggregation inhibitors (medicines that dissolve blood clots or prevent blood clotting), medicines to lower blood sugar (if you have diabetes, medicines that reduce water retention in the body, medicines to lower blood pressure (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors), methotrexate, digoxin or valproic acid.
Concomitant consumption of alcoholic beverages increases the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
What you need to pay attention to if you are taking other medications
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
If you take medicines containing acetylsalicylic acid, you should consult a doctor or dentist before surgery (even before a minor, such as tooth extraction).
Important information about some of the ingredients of Aspirin direkt
Each chewable tablet contains 32 mg of sodium, which may harm patients on a low-sodium diet.
It contains aspartame (E 951), a phenylalanine source. Each chewable tablet contains 18.5 mg of phenylalanine, which may harm people with phenylketonuria.
This medicine contains the dye Sunset Yellow 85 (E 110), which may cause allergic reactions.
Pregnancy and lactation
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Aspirin should not be taken directly during the last three months of pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about using Aspirin directly during the first six months of pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Children and adolescents
Due to the possibility of Reye’s syndrome (a rare but severe disease), medicines containing acetylsalicylic acid should only be used after prior medical advice.
3. How to take Aspirin directly
The recommended doses are (unless otherwise prescribed):
For adults:
1 – 2 chewable tablets (500 – 1000 mg acetylsalicylic acid) that can be retaken in 4 to 8 hours.
The maximum daily dose is 8 chewable tablets (4000 mg acetylsalicylic acid).
For children over 12 years of age:
The recommended daily dose of acetylsalicylic acid for children is 60 mg/kg body weight divided into 4 to 6 individual doses (15 mg/kg every 6 hours or 10 mg/kg every 4 hours). The recommended single dose is one chewable tablet (500 mg acetylsalicylic acid).
Chew the tablets.
Take Aspirin Direct for up to three days. If symptoms persist or recur, consult a physician.
What to do if you have taken an overdose?
Talk to a doctor or pharmacist immediately if you take more than you should.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Aspirin Direct can have side effects.
Possible side effects include abdominal pain, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, noticeable or hidden gastrointestinal bleeding that may cause anemia (such bleeding is more common at higher doses), stomach and duodenal ulcers (up to perforation), and increased levels. Transaminases, hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., hives, skin reactions, anaphylactic reactions, asthma, Quincke’s edema), increased risk of bleeding.
Dizziness and ringing in the ears may occur as symptoms of an overdose.
